When legendary golfer Tiger Woods apologized for his "transgressions" in a statement that addressed allegations that he had been having extra-marital affairs, his sponsors were standing behind him. However, on Sunday, Accenture became the first sponsor to officially sever its ties with Woods, explaining that "he is no longer the right representative for its advertising."
Also over the weekend, Procter & Gamble's (PG Quote)Gillette division said it would begin limiting Woods' role in its marketing programs while AT&T and Tag Heuer have said they were assessing their ties with the world's number one golfer.
"I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart," Woods said.
The world's number one golfer also said that he had "not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves."
Woods generated a media frenzy over his private life after a car crash in the middle of the night. His refusal to speak to police at the time of the accident fueled speculation that Woods had been having extra-marital relationships.
